7 Things to Check in a Neodymium Magnet Supplier
Choosing a neodymium magnet supplier is about much more than comparing price quotes. For procurement teams, the real cost of a magnet often becomes apparent only after the order arrives. Parts that are out of tolerance, incorrectly magnetized, made from the wrong grade, poorly coated or inconsistent from shipment to shipment can create production delays, rework and supplier changes.
A better starting question is: Can this supplier consistently deliver exactly what we specify?
1. Can They Meet the Exact Magnet Specifications?
Two magnets that look identical can perform very differently depending on grade, dimensions, magnetization direction, coating, temperature capability and tolerances. A complete specification should define the characteristics that actually matter to the application.
- Magnet grade and minimum magnetic properties
- Finished dimensions and tolerances
- Magnetization direction and pole configuration
- Coating or plating system
- Operating-temperature requirements
- Surface gauss, pull force or other magnetic acceptance criteria

2. Do They Have Reliable Quality Control?
Neodymium magnets require controlled dimensional, visual and magnetic inspection. For higher-volume or critical applications, buyers may need dimensional reports, Certificates of Conformance, magnetic test data, material certifications or PPAP records.

3. Can They Verify the Magnet Grade?
A magnet described as N52, N35SH or N42H should meet the required magnetic-property range for that material. For critical programs, supplier documentation may include Br, HcB, HcJ, BHmax, demagnetization curves and temperature data.
Do not compare premium grades only by the designation printed on a quotation. Compare the required minimum properties and test method.
4. How Consistent Are They From Lot to Lot?
One acceptable sample is not the same as repeatable production. OEM buyers should understand how the supplier controls changes in raw material, tooling, coating, magnetization, manufacturing location and sub-suppliers.
For recurring requirements, ask how lot traceability is maintained and how significant production changes are communicated.
5. Can They Supply the Required Compliance Documentation?
For many organizations, the magnet and the documentation are both part of the purchase requirement. Depending on the application and destination market, documentation may include RoHS, REACH/SVHC, Conflict Minerals/CMRT, EMRT, PFAS, TSCA, California Proposition 65, country of origin, CoCs and material declarations.

6. Do They Understand Supply-Chain Risk?
Neodymium magnets have a global supply chain that can be affected by raw-material availability, production capacity, export requirements, tariffs, customs and transportation. Procurement teams should evaluate more than quoted unit cost.
- What is normal production lead time?
- Is U.S. inventory available?
- Can safety stock be maintained?
- Can blanket orders and scheduled releases be supported?
- What happens if production is delayed?
- Can the supplier package and screen magnetized shipments for air transport when UN 2807 / IATA PI 953 may apply?

No manufacturing supply chain is perfect. A dependable magnet supplier should be able to investigate dimensional, plating, magnetization, magnetic-performance, packaging and shipping issues and provide a useful technical response.
For industrial buyers, access to knowledgeable support is especially valuable when a drawing or existing part needs to be reviewed before a replacement source is approved.
Price Matters. Reliability Matters More.
Procurement teams naturally need competitive pricing, but a few cents saved on a magnet can disappear quickly if the result is rejected material, assembly problems, downtime, expedited replacement shipments or supplier requalification.
