Design and application notes

Axial magnetization places the north and south poles on the two circular end faces of the rod. The 4:1 length-to-diameter geometry is useful where a concentrated axial field is needed through a narrow cylindrical envelope, including sensor activation, magnetic plungers, positioning elements, test fixtures, couplings, and embedded OEM assemblies.

The listed pull force and surface field are reference values under defined test conditions. Air gap, target-steel thickness, contact area, temperature, surrounding ferromagnetic materials, and load direction can all change usable performance. Use the Magnet Pull Force Calculator for preliminary screening and the Neodymium Magnet Grades Chart when comparing material grades.

Procurement and custom rod magnets

SKU 8186 is suited to repeat builds where a standardized 1/4 × 1 in axial rod magnet simplifies sourcing and BOM control. Browse stocked neodymium disk and rod magnets for related sizes, or use the Magnet RFQ Builder for custom diameter, length, coating, tolerance, magnetization, or production quantities.
