BH Curves

SKU 8717 is a thin N35 neodymium ring magnet measuring 6.5 mm OD × 4.5 mm ID × 1 mm thick. Its low-profile annular geometry provides a large center opening relative to the outside diameter, making it useful when a compact ring shape and minimal thickness are required.

This product is axially magnetized through its 1 mm thickness. The poles are on the two flat annular faces. Although it is ring-shaped, it is not a true radial ring magnet; radial magnetization describes a different field orientation between the inner and outer circumferences.

Axial Ring vs. Radial Ring

For a standard axial ring like SKU 8717, magnetic flux exits and returns through the flat faces. A true radial ring is magnetized locally along the radius, typically creating opposite polarity on the inner and outer circumferences in a simple two-pole design. The two parts can have identical OD, ID and thickness yet behave very differently in an assembly.

To compare standard stock sizes, browse Ring Magnets. For radial, diametric or multipole requirements, read What Is a True Radial Magnet? or use the Magnet RFQ Builder for a custom drawing.

Assembly and holding-force guidance

The thin ring is brittle. Provide clearance around the center opening, support it in its housing and avoid clamping loads or impacts on the narrow annular wall. Treat the listed 0.75 lb pull as a comparison value rather than a safe working load. Validate retention with the actual steel target, air gap and loading direction.
